Feelin' frisky wearing a melange of Meow!

I don't know if it was the purple eyeshadow (you know I usually stick with neutrals) or if it was my Meow Cosmetics (rahr!), but I was feeling very frisky today.  After taking about 20 shots hoping for one that would show the complexity of these beautiful colors, I started getting very silly with the camera.  I already feel weird taking pictures of myself for my blog (look at me, look at me!) but when I have to keep altering the light source and my camera settings in the hopes of being able to accurately depict the eyeshadows for you all, I get down right goofy sometimes.  So, I decided to make a little filmstrip of myself being the camera/computer nerd that I am.  I hope you enjoy seeing a side of me usually reserved for my husband and kids (yeah, they already know I'm nuts).

In this look, I used Meow rising on my lids, Meow ice blossom on the inner corner, Meow snipe to darken the outer corner and mixed with water to line the upper lash line, and Aromaleigh oyster on brow bone.  My cheek color is Meow's new Panache Blush in vim.  I love this blush!  It's soft, slightly shimmery and looks like the perfect flush of peachy pink (Meow describes it as soft warm honeysuckle and I agree) on my cheeks. . .if I do say so myself.  Although I'm tempted to keep wearing this blush color repeatedly, there are several more Meow Cosmetics Panache Blush colors I'm wanting to try out.  Check back to see which one I choose next.

Oh, before I forget. . .I'm wearing my new favorite lipgloss in this look.  Rimmel's Moisture Renew Cream Lipgloss with Collagen and Vitamins A, C & E, SPF 15.  This gloss doesn't feel sticky, smells nice without having an overpowering discernible scent, has just the right about of pigment and shimmer, and leaves my lips baby soft when it wears off.  All that and an SPF too!  I'm wearing Active Mauve in this look but my other current fave is Rose Cocoon

Silly me!

Meow "End of Days/Panache" Look

A friend recently told me that she's been wearing Meow's Panache Blush in Brio.  Lucky me, I recently received several samples of blush from this line and Brio was one of them.  Meow Cosmetics' website describes Brio as "muted natural fresh raspberry."  In my opinion, it's a little warmer than what I imagine raspberry to be, but I love it nevertheless.  It has a slight sheen to it without being what you might consider frosty.  You can see the highlight on my cheekbone in the fourth photo.  I didn't apply any additional highlighters. That's all Brio!

On my eyes, I'm wearing two eyeshadow colors from Meow's recent collection, "End of Days,"  Prophecy and Nostradamus.  I received a free sample of Puddy Tat feliner in my order so I used that in this look as well.  I think a copper/bronze liner works well with blue eyes.  I also used Meow Citrine glow powder to highlight my brow bone (I use this powder nearly every day as either a brow bone highlight or all-over face brightener. . .Love!) and Aromaleigh Ice on the tear duct area.  It was the perfect look for running errands and meeting my husband for lunch.  P.S.  Don't tell my daughter but I swiped her mesh knit hoodie for the day.  I figure she's in my closet enough so all's fair, right? ; )

Pin Up Girls and Tattoos

For quite some time, I have admired vintage pin up girl art, tattoos (I have two that I got in my 20's), and pin up girl style on women with tattoos.  Pin up girl style isn't for me, but I've definitely contemplated getting a pin up girl tattoo.  Although I have searched extensively, I have yet to find just the right one that perfectly depicts the multi-faceted woman that I am.  Yes, I am a housewife, a cook, a gardener, and an all around DIY gal.  But first and foremost, I am a woman.  And being a woman of a certain age, I occasionally ask myself, "Am I too old for more tattoos?"  I don't want to appear silly or as if I'm trying to hard.  But if it's simply a form of self-expression, it shouldn't really matter what others think about it, right?

Oh the dilemma. . .thus, my search continues.  In the meantime, here are some images that I am particularly fond of.  Enjoy!

Or maybe I should just get a pin up girl apron instead. : )

Spike shoe trend. . .ouch!

The other day, a friend and I were discussing the recent appearance of spike shoes.  Although the spike shoe trend has been on the runways for the past couple of years, from what I've seen it is just now coming to the forefront (or should I say "store front") of mainstream America. From casual flats to sky high stilettos, spikes are showing up everywhere. . .even on mommy-to-be Jessica Simpson.

In small doses, the spikes do look very chic.  However, I'm certain I'd end up permanently scarring myself so I'll be leaving this trend on the runway.

If you want to get the look but don't have a Louboutin budget, here are some less expensive alternatives.

Dynamo transparent allover spike flats:  $43 at Makemechic.com

Betsey Johnson Vendeta black leather:  On sale for $134 at Zappos.com
Blue velvet platform ankle bootie:  $69 at Shiekh.com or Shiekh stores

LLV Gold/Clear platform peep toe stiletto:  On sale for $37 at Shiekh.com or Shiekh stores
Or perhaps a spiked purse is more your style. . . DOUBLE OUCH!!!

My love (and acquisition) of heels continues. . .

I'm a firm believer that great looking shoes don't have to cost a lot.  Trends comes and go, so unless you're investing in a classic shoe that needs to stand the test of time (quality and style-wise), you really don't need to bust your budget to look sexy and stylish.  Here are some of my recent purchases that ring up at less than $40 each (I know!).  They are cute, comfortable (as comfortable as a 5" stiletto can be), and well made.

  • Bamboo brand nude "Colada" platform stiletto.  I wore these out to dinner with Jason (my hubby) with dark wash jeans and a flowy off-the-shoulder top.
  • Mossimo brand fuchsia "Paisley" platform pump - The color is much richer in person.  The heel is a little chunkier than a stiletto so they are easier to wear if you are new to high heels. I haven't worn these yet but I'm sure I'll need to go out and buy a new dress to go with them. ; )

  • I got these Bamboo brand "Jasma" platform wedges in black.  They are deceptively lightweight.  I wear them with shorts for a leggier look on my 5' 4" frame.

  • Delicious brand peep toe platform stiletto in "White Zebra."  I wore these on Valentine's Day with dark wash flare leg jeans and a black ruffly key-hole top.  Rahr!

Although I found each of these shoes in local stores, they can be found and purchased online as well.  Just type in the shoe brand and name (or description) in a Google search.

Aromaleigh v.2 blush collection coming soon!

I'm so excited that Aromaleigh v2 is getting ready to unveil the first of its new line of blushes called "Sylph." I've tried lots of blushes from drug store and department store brands to indie mineral makeup companies and I have yet to find any I adore like Aromaleigh v1.  The pigmentation, finishes and selection is unsurpassed.  And, since the creative force behind Aromaleigh v2 is the same as v1, I'm sure this new line of blushes will become favorites. The first collection of cheek colors arrives on February 7th with another surprise new product making its debut on Valentine's Day!

Here is part of the announcement from Aromaleigh v.2's blog:

"Cheek colors for Aromaleigh.v2 will be released in groupings based on their finish, to make things easier for you to choose the right product for your preferences.

The SYLPH blush collection will be a lush grouping of beautiful, easy-to-wear, shades that have a matte/plush finish. Not completely matte, but not overly lustrous either, these blushes will hopefully become go-to cheek color for everyone!"
